Summer is finally here! The MKE Three – June blog post is just a tad late this month. We’ve had a crazy schedule the last few weeks! We’ve been busy doing construction on our condo to get the “babe cave” ready. We’re building a new room for the baby which involves framing, drywall, electrical, paint, and on and on. It’s been a process but we can’t wait to see the finished look.
We also took an amazing trip to Portugal and Spain as a last big European hurrah before the baby comes. We went to Lisbon, Lagos and Sevilla, all of which were insanely beautiful and full of culture. The trip involved tons of walking, fresh fish and tapas, sangria (for the non-pregnant people), boat rides, castles and palaces, amazing architecture, and great people watching.
Milwaukee Maker’s Market
On Father’s Day, we participated in our first ever Milwaukee Maker’s Market. The Milwaukee Maker’s Market is an art, craft and maker fair held on the third Sunday of every month during summer in the parking lot at Colectivo in Bay View. It was hot, hot, HOT that day – high 90s with even higher humidity. Luckily we were able to keep semi-cool in our shaded tent with lots of Colectivo iced coffee. It was an extra special day because it was Zach’s first (almost) Father’s Day. We hung out with other local Milwaukee makers like Drinking Maker with a Candle Problem who makes great smelling candles out of beer cans.
OnMilwaukee even featured the Milwaukee Maker’s Market in a recent roundup of the best festivals in Milwaukee. Check it out here.
We’ll also be at the Milwaukee Maker’s Market on August 19th so be sure to stop by and say hi!
Milwaukee Beer Gear Pint Glasses
Shameless plug here, but we are so excited about the launch of our new Milwaukee pint glasses. Our first set is of the Third Ward neighborhood. This design is similar to our Historic Third Ward coasters but extends into the lakefront to include the Henry Maier Festival Park just in time for Summerfest and all the other cultural Milwaukee festivals that happen basically every weekend during summer. The design also extends into the Menomonee River Valley to include the Harley Museum for Harley’s 115th year anniversary this September. Right now, you can buy them on our website, at Local MKE, Hyde Park, and Historic Milwaukee.
Nomad Nacional
As some of you may know, Zach is a pretty big soccer fan. So he was thrilled when he heard that Nomad, a soccer pub on Brady Street, was opening up a new pop-up location for the World Cup on the South Side. Nomad Nacional opened a few weeks ago in the building La Fluente used to be in on 5th Street. It’s huge inside and has a big outdoor area with giant TVs to watch the World Cup. Every week, Nomad Nacional is hosting different events like the Newaukee Night Market Pop-Up so there’s always something going on. They also have tents with vendors and food trucks, in addition to their Mexican-inspired menu, to enjoy during the games. We’ve been several times already and are loving the vibe, food and events.
Thanks for reading! We’ll see ya next month!
