Hello! We can’t believe February is already almost over. It seems like January went on forever, but February just flew by. Here in Milwaukee, we are ready for spring weather. It’s been in the 40s and 50s the last few days and we’re hoping it will continue to get warmer – although you never know in Wisconsin. We spy snow in the forecast but are crossing our fingers that it won’t actually happen.
Exciting news! We are going to be a vendor at the Brew City Crafters Spring Fling Craft Fair this Saturday, March 3 from 10 am – 3 pm at American Serb Hall. There will be more than 90 artists, crafters and vendors at this free event so be sure to stop by. Brew City Crafters has also partnered with the Wisconsin Humane Society to help with donations – such a great cause. We hope to see you there!
We’re heading to Tucson, AZ in March for a little warm weather getaway and can’t wait. Let us know if you have any recommendations for things to do in the comments below! Fun story, Zach and I actually met in Phoenix, AZ. We both got sent there for a work training (we worked for the same company but in different locations). We haven’t been back to Arizona since (it’s been 5.5 years!) so we’re excited to go back.
As promised, each month we are going to share three Milwaukee things we are loving – shops, restaurants, bars, music, coffee shops, etc. Let’s dive right in!
Farmer’s Market at the Domes
If you haven’t been to the Milwaukee Winter Farmer’s Market in the Greenhouse Annex at the Mitchell Park Conservatory (Domes), you are missing out. We went a few weeks ago and were pleasantly surprised by all of the delicious vendors. From fresh organic produce to sauces and soups to tasty global cuisine to all the cheese you can imagine, there’s something for everyone. Pro tip: Skip breakfast and much on all the samples offered – you won’t leave hungry! We stocked up on fresh winter veggies, tons of apples, emmer flour (which we used to make the most delicious banana bread), vegetarian tamales, garlic and herbs, and of course Wisconsin cheese.
Hyde Park
Hyde Park MKE is a local Wauwatosa clothing boutique and tailor owned by my friend from high school, Sydney Deutsch. Hyde Park Tailors and Cleaners was a family run business known for their excellent tailoring that Syd recently took over from her grandfather and turned into an amazing boutique. They feature clothing, accessories, gifts and home goods sourced from around the country. Many of their items are locally made. Plus, they still offer tailoring. Hyde Park often partners with other brands to put on fashion shows and pop ups so keep an eye out for what’s to come.
Nickel&Rose
Nickel&Rose is a an American folk-music duo we first heard at Jazz Estate (our favorite local jazz club – delicious craft cocktails and an intimate vibe) a few months ago. They had just gotten back from an Eastern European tour and, along with amazing music, had great stories to share about their travels. Made up of guitarist Carl Nichols and upright bass player Johanna Rose, their vibe combines West African music, blues, bluegrass, jazz and folk. Since forming in the summer of 2016, they’ve been on several European tours and actually recorded their EP, Oh Sweet Love, in Berlin which was then released in April 2017. Before heading to Europe for another tour in a few weeks. they’ll be playing at Anodyne in Milwaukee this Friday, March 2. We’ll definitely be there.
Thanks for reading!
