Welcome to MKE Three, a new blog series that will feature three Milwaukee things we’re loving each month. MKE Three could include anything from local breweries to new restaurants to our favorite coffee shops to a Milwaukee maker we admire, and everything in between. This week we are featuring one of our favorite local shops, a beer-licious soap maker and a Wisconsin artist we can’t stop listening to.
1. localMKE
localMKE is shop in the Historic Third Ward that offers a curated collection of U.S.-made goods, many of which are made right here in Milwaukee. Owned by a great couple (who also enjoys the occasional craft brew), localMKE is the perfect destination to find a gift for anyone on your list. Here, you can find local artwork, leather bags, hand-crafted apparel and jewelry, candles, soap, essential oils, coasters and even custom guitars. Stop in for a visit. You won’t regret it.
2. Soapfixx
New to the maker’s scene like us, Soapfixx is a one-woman artisan soap maker who’s already making moves. Soapfixx launched in November 2016 and has already created batches upon batches of the best-smelling soap. She offers all natural soap flavors like vanilla custard, lemon drop, lavender, manly man, energy and #relax, but also offers Wisconsin-themed and beer flavors, including Door County Cherry, Wisconsin’s Northwoods, Wisconsin’s Brandy Old Fashioned and Patchouli Amber Ale, made with Lakefront Brewery‘s Riverwest Stein. She also creates kid-friendly soaps with rubber ducky bath toys perfect for the little one in your life. Her soaps can be purchased through Instagram or at the Waxwing on the East Side.
3. GGOOLLDD
GGOOLLDD is a Milwaukee electro-pop band that just released a new EP called Teeth. Inspired by icons like Queen, Black Sabboth and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, GGOOLLDD is led by Baton Rouge native, Margaret Butler. The band was formed on a whim in Wisconsin in 2014 and they haven’t looked back since. In 2017, they won the 88Nine Radio Milwaukee Music Award for Band of the Year and will begin a national tour in 2018 kicking off at Union South at UW-Madison on February 9th. We saw them at Summerfest last year and love their catchy, upbeat danceable songs and are excited to see where they’ll go next.
